DSF Office Presents Shabana Asif with Creations 2009 Aspiring Designer Award

‘Totally shocked’ and ‘On Top of the World’ is how aspiring designer, Shabana Asif, described her feelings after winning the DSF 2009 Creations Aspiring Designer Award at the Observatory, BurJuman on Friday evening, 30 January.  The award is part of the DSF Office initiative to appreciate the efforts of aspiring designers and to make Creations a launch-pad for successful careers in the global fashion industry.

 

 

 


Friday evening unveiled a showcase of single designs from each of the aspiring designers featured during the week of Creations 2009, namely Roxx Couture, Rabia Z, AlyAshmac, Preston University, Mimi Fashion, Tahera Peeran and Shabana Asif.  Among VIP guests and media, a fashion jury presented Shabana with the top honour for her stunning metallic silver abaya design, crafted entirely out of one single piece of luxurious fabric.

Shabana, who launched her fashion career at DSF Creations 2008, revealed that she had only ten days to create the collection that earned her first place among her designer contemporaries - an impressive indicator of the enormous talent behind her elegant and sophisticated designs.  In addition to the Creations Aspiring Designer Award trophy that will now adorn her mantelpiece, the prize awarded to Shabana Asif included a free participation platform at Colombo Fashion Week.  Colombo Fashion Week will sponsor all accommodation, event transport, make-up as well as provide models to wear Shabana’s designs at this premier fashion event.  Shabana’s air ticket is provided by Emirates Vision.

Providing the perfect conclusion to a week of inspired fashion was Los-Angeles-based designer, Samora, who presented her Samora Spring 2009 Collection at Creations for the first time.  ‘I am designing for a passionate, sophisticated woman who is sensual and idealistic, yet is playful and romantic,’ says Samora of her Spring Collection.  

Samora’s Spring Collection arguably provided the highlight among Creations’ week-long line-up of established international designers.  Her beautiful designs showcased a variety of looks that included flirty floral chiffon tiered dresses; classic tailored separates in black-and-white pinstripes and high waist maxi full skirts and shorts.
